Winter Garden
Winter Garden with a population of about 30,000 began its greatest period of growth in the 1980's, when devastating freezes destroyed thousands of acres of citrus. Developers began buying up decimated groves for new homes, creating new subdivisions seemingly overnight. Then came a brilliant project called Rails to Trails, through which abandoned rail beds across the country were converted into hiking and biking trails.
The popular West Orange Trail passes directly through Winter Garden providing an oasis for strollers and shoppers in an updated downtown shopping district with one-of-a-kind boutiques and a variety of restaurants. In 2001 the downtown district underwent a face-lift. Brick streets were restored, old buildings were remodeled, and Centennial Fountain was constructed.
Just a few miles south you will find Winter Garden Village at Fowler Groves, an open-air shopping center offering a multitude of shopping options from department stores to electronics to specialty retailers and over 20 restaurants and eateries to choose from.
